Sports in 2010: A Bedtime Story
December 15, 2010 5 Comments
Twas the night before Christmas, a glorious year in sport,
From the diamond to the gridiron to even the court.
A first for New Orleans, a first for the Bay,
A first for Tiger and his winless dismay.
Beginning in Pasadena, a place I knew well,
What happened to Colt? I can’t even tell.
Shortly thereafter, I said “What if?”
Only to see our title hopes fall off a cliff.
Then came the showdown of Peyton and Drew,
A fairly even matchup, for all that we knew,
Then emerged the sounds of the Who Dat Nation,
What a perfect time for a Saints salvation.
On to basketball and the tourney of madness,
Where all but one team will return in sadness.
An unusual matchup of Butler and Duke,
Where a Blue Devils win was certainly no fluke.
Not too long after, began the baseball season,
The year of the pitcher for some strange reason.
Two perfect games and four no-hitters,
Simply too strange, even for twitter.
Onto the NBA Finals, quite long in duration,
While only 14 teams took a vacation.
The Lakers won again, to no one’s surprise,
It took seven games for the Celtic’s demise.
The World Cup was set in the South African nation,
This was a first, what a great celebration.
Many were skeptical of Octopus Paul,
Even if Spain would win after all.
As we were all waiting for Lebron’s Decision,
His TV special caused quite the collision.
No Cavs, No Knicks, he was very discrete
Many were shocked when he chose the Heat.
The Texas Rangers were finally a contender,
But the Giants wouldn’t surrender.
They battled and fought with one prize in sight,
San Fran would end up winning this fight.
This NFL season has been nothing but great,
Finally we learned of Brett Favre’s fate.
On Brady! On Manning! On Cutler! On Vick!
New England emerged as my Super Bowl pick.
Cam Newton won the Heisman, it was not even close,
Not even the NCAA could step on his toes.
The matchup is set for the Tigers and Ducks,
As a Texas fan, I wish them both, good luck.
I hope you enjoy this site where I preach,
Or else I’ll take my talents to South Beach.
This poem is using up all of my might,
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
